Achieving excellent esthetics in fully edentulous patients can present a serious challenge to the dental team. In the United States, an aging population of baby boomers has created an ever-increasing need for high quality, natural-looking dentures. These growing numbers have contributed to the exceptionally high demand for denture materials that feature both superior function and esthetics.
With a company philosophy based on passion, vision, and innovation, Ivoclar Vivadent offers the dental team a full range of products for cosmetic, preventive, restorative, and prosthetic dentistry in more than 100 countries. In response to the industry trend toward high-end, esthetic dentures, the company also offers solutions for dental laboratories looking to provide clients and patients with durable, cosmetic prostheses at a number of price points. Eric Kibler, Ivoclar Vivadent’s Marketing Manager of Removable Prosthetics, explains that the company is looking to help dental laboratories evolve to the next level in their denture production and esthetics. “Most laboratories are already quite skilled at producing dentures that improve the patient’s overall health and well-being. But now there is such a high demand for natural esthetics that many times, the patient’s cosmetic expectations aren’t being met. They want a new smile, and that’s what Ivoclar can help laboratories provide.”
Ivoclar Vivadent’s SmileSelector™ System offers guidance when planning denture treatments for fully edentulous patients. This system prompts the dental team to consider 5 factors:
• How important is the appearance of the denture?
• How important is the longevity of the denture?
• How important is the fit of your new denture?
• How important will your ability to chew foods with your new denture be?
• How important will your new dentures ability to resist bacterial growth be?
Once the dental team agrees on a course of action, the SmileSelector System offers 3 possible courses of action—Mid-Line, Premium, and Master Class.
SRVivodent® and SRVivodent® S denture teeth represent the perfect blend of value and esthetics. Manufactured with conventional cross-linked resin, these denture teeth demonstrate good resistance to wear and come with a 5-year warranty.
BlueLine® DCL, PhysioSet® TCR, and Vivodent® PE denture teeth are the high performance tooth choice in Ivoclar Vivadent’s tooth roster. Produced using durable double cross-linked resin, these teeth demonstrate increased wear resistance. Additionally, they yield a highly natural appearance, especially when combined with patient-specific mould selection. These Premium options come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty.
Master Class
Phonares® II and PhysioStar® teeth represent the ultimate tooth solution for both clients and their patients. Precision crafted using optimized Nano hybrid composite, these teeth demonstrate exceptional wear resistance and durability. Created using a four layer, 360 degree injection process, they feature uncompromised translucency, color blending, and a highly natural appearance. Phonares II and PhysioStar teeth give the laboratory the highest level of characterization and are available in a wide range of color options, including extra white bleach shades. These teeth are indicated for both complete partial and implant cases.
Getting the Right Fit
While the cosmetic appeal of the teeth is paramount when creating a denture prostheses, the density, look, and fit of the base is also imperative to creating a natural-looking and natural-functioning prosthesis. The key to a well-fitting denture is the precise adaptation of the base. Ivoclar Vivadent’s IvoBase® Precision Processing System was designed to address certain challenges with convectional denture processing systems. This system targets eliminating acrylic shrinkage that may cause a poor fit, as well as minimizing the porosity of a denture base and reducing the amount of residual monomer content after curing.
Acrylic shrinkage in particular can have a negative effect on a restoration’s function and overall cosmetic appeal, as it can lead to a loose-fitting prosthesis and sore spots within the patient’s mouth. Kibler says, “The side effects of acrylic shrinkage lessen a denture’s cosmetic qualities in that the patient never really feels as though he has natural teeth. This makes him self-conscious because he thinks if the dentures feel unnatural, they must look unnatural as well.”
Beyond achieving excellent fit, the IvoBase system minimizes porosity, which makes dentures made from the material resistant to odor absorption, staining, and plaque accumulation.
As more and more dental patients are prescribed dentures, the need for a natural, highly esthetic, and functional final prosthesis has become more prominent in the dental laboratory industry. Ivoclar Vivadent’s SmileSelector System ultimately will help laboratories work with their dentist clients to provide the excellent, high-quality dentures that patients now demand.
