In one of the more significant moves of the year in the dental laboratory industry, Zahn Dental acquired Custom Automated Prosthetics (CAP). The deal was announced by Zahn’s parent company, Henry Schein, Inc.
“CAP brings the best and most experienced customer service and technical training support team in the industry to the Zahn family of digital solutions,” says Rita Acquafredda, Vice President and General Manager of Henry Schein. “The core strengths of our two companies complement each other and, along with Custom Milling Center and our supplier partners, will offer the dental laboratory industry a synergy of digital solution brands, milling services, and technical support and training to further strengthen our customer relationships and advance the industry’s transition to a digital dentistry future.”
Founded in 2010 with headquarters in Stoneham, Massachusetts, CAP had sales for 2015 of approximately $30 million and has more than 60 employees. CAP offers CAD/CAM equipment including integrated milling systems, scanners, and printers, as well as a full line of zirconia materials. CAP’s milling center features crowns, bridges, models, surgical guides, and design services. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Bob Cohen, CAP’s President and Co-Founder, and Rob Nazzal, CAP’s CEO and Co-Founder, will join Henry Schein.
“We are thrilled to join the Henry Schein team,” Miller and Nazzal say in a statement to IDT. “By combining the expertise and strengths of each company into a single organization, we are confident that our partner laboratories will continue to receive best-in-class support, education, and product offerings. We remain committed to our mission to helping laboratories thrive and look forward to strengthening our presence in the market.”
Henry Schein says in a press release that the addition of CAP to its laboratory supply business will provide a full suite of innovative, interoperable solutions, services, and support that meet the individual needs of dental laboratory customers.
“CAP is a successful digital solutions provider to the dental laboratory market and their business is highly complementary to our Zahn Dental and Custom Milling Center business. CAP will bring to Henry Schein a highly-trained and experienced customer service and training support team,” Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, says in the release.
