Zirlux Acetal
Inside Dental Technology delivers updates on digital workflows, materials, lab techniques, and innovation in dental technology through expert articles and videos.
Zirlux acetal is a semi-flexible material ideal for partial denture frameworks and other metal-free removable applications. This highly crystalline acetal copolymer possesses high tensile and flexural strength, fatigue resistance, low friction, low moisture absorption, and excellent dimensional stability. Using a 5-axis dry mill, dental laboratories can now eliminate wax-ups, investing, casting, and finishing of CrCo frameworks. Zirlux Acetal comes out of the mill nearly polished, making finishing and final polishing easy to complete.
While this and other non-metal options typically have only been available in white in the past, Zirlux Acetal is now available in pink to replicate the color of gingiva. Zirlux Acetal in both tooth-colored and pink provides a much more esthetic result to the patient than what is possible with old-fashioned chrome frameworks. The material also has some flexibility, providing more comfort to the patient than traditional metal restorations and even high-impact polymer options. It is CAD/CAM processed, designed and milled in a 98.5-mm puck to fit almost any mill, and acrylic can be processed directly onto it. The material is biocompatible as well.
Zirlux Acetal restorations are easy to fix and even relign if necessary. Traditionally, when a patient loses a tooth, a complicated process is required to add a tooth to a removable partial denture, but that process is significantly easier with Zirlux Acetal.
1. Zirlux Acetal comes out of the mill nearly polished, making finishing and final polishing easy to complete.
2. Zirlux Acetal is available in both a tooth-colored shade and pink shade for offering esthetic options.
3. Zirlux Acetal offers an array of benefits to the patient including no metallic taste, no uncomfortable hot or cold sensations, easy to place and remove from the mouth, and a more natural appearance compared to metal clasps.
