High Precision for Full-Mouth Reconstructions
By John Wilson
Our laboratory focuses on implant dentistry and full-mouth reconstruction, so as scanning technology started to reach the advanced stage of precision where it is today, we were able to take our business to a more competitive level by limiting the potential issues that we had with analog processes.
We decided to add the D2000 because we were working on so many full-mouth reconstructions, and the scanning plates for the articulator interface as well as the ability to align bites in the software really took us to the next level. Every one of our full-arch cases utilizes beta appliances that are then adjusted, modified, and rescanned to allow us to morph our final design. That technology inside of 3Shape allows us to make a final restoration that the dentist does not need to adjust at all, because all the due diligence has been done in PMMA. Dentists just love the fact that our bites are perfect.
As great as 3Shape's technology is, it continues to improve, partly because the company actually listens to its customers. The end user in this trade is super important, and when a user brings an idea to 3Shape, there is a really good chance it will be implemented in a future release. 3Shape has multiple paths for users to share information, such as social media channels that lead straight to the top.
3Shape's integrated package with its desktop scanners, CAD software, and the TRIOS 3 intraoral scanner has really taken our laboratory to new heights. It allows our throughput to be so much faster. The combination works really well but is not so proprietary that it will not work with other scans. As dentistry gravitates toward more intraoral scanning by dentists, 3Shape is preparing laboratories to capitalize on it for the highest level of precision for full-arch restorations.
Clearly, 3Shape and the D2000 scanner in particular have set the bar high. They are what everyone else is looking to reach. It has just been a wonderful product for us.
› The D2000's scanning plates for the articulator interface and the ability to align bites in the 3Shape software are significant for full-arch cases
› 3Shape's technology is constantly improving in part because of how well the company listens to its users and implements their ideas
› 3Shape's integrated package will remain strong as more dentists gravitate to intraoral scanning
