Game-Changing Products 2018
Inside Dental Technology delivers updates on digital workflows, materials, lab techniques, and innovation in dental technology through expert articles and videos.
Every year, Inside Dental Technology asks its Editorial Advisory Board to nominate Game-Changing Products for the annual Product iNavigator. These products demonstrate superior innovation and potential for bringing change to the industry. The following are the 2018 selections.
anaxdent North America
Ruth Bourke, BSC
The launch of this product as well as its usage as part of the BDT (Burnout Denture Tooth) Technique from Beever Denture Technology have been very impactful. The first Pekkton Summit in conjunction with the Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting really brought this material and its uses to the forefront.
Yamahachi Dental
Mark Williamson, CDT
Earlier this year, our laboratory sought to produce and offer our clients a digitally fabricated night guard/TMJ splint. We needed a quality clear PMMA puck that was FDA-approved, strong, and affordable. After some research, we found Yamahachi PMMA pucks. Our clients now ask for them regularly and comment how well they fit. They are super clear, too!
Fusion Dental Implants
Steve Hoofard, CDT
Fusion Dental Implants offers two solutions that have given us much more flexibility in treatment planning our implant restorations. They offer two screw styles, both allowing up to 30° of angulation. Both styles are available in almost every manufacturer's platforms. Patented in the US, the Universal Solution by IBO is one universal Ti-base for two screw options: standard screw-retained crowns (implant manufacturer drivers) and angled screw channel crowns with the Angle Correct (AC) screw and universal driver. The Sure Solution Ti-base kit from BHS30 features a connection between an external ball head screw and driver that is the preferred solution for stable, long-term restorations due to its high torque resistance and no screw head damage or screw head confusion.

These new software updates allow impression scanning as well as conventional model scanning. Combined with the new Ceramill Map400 scanner, they increase productivity and reduce labor and materials in many ways.
Ivoclar Vivadent

Many temporary cements are too bright/white, especially for most anteriors. It can be challenging to find the balance with something that stays on, is removable later, and looks natural. With Telio, I have found that the color settles after 2 to 3 days and looks very natural for our milled PMMA temporaries; it stays on well and is easy to remove when ready. I found this out personally when my own temporary came off in Chicago in February. I went to the clinical convention, and fortunately someone had Telio CS Link. I love this cement and now keep it in my purse next to my lipstick. I purchased it for a few of my clients to compare with their existing cements. It is a great product to complement our milled temporaries.

Beautiful high translucency in a pre-shaded zirconia, with the right opacity and strength to fabricate everything from single crowns up to full-arch restorations. It has kept my inventory low and helped me to create very, very highly esthetic implant and tooth-borne restorations.
Nobel Biocare
Keith Miolen, CDT
This new product alters a typically straight screw channel to be pivoted 360º at a 20º angle. This allows the driver's channel to be moved lingually instead of being exposed on the labial or buccal side of a screw-retained prosthesis, providing an esthetic result that would otherwise be compromised.
3Shape
Mark Williamson, CDT
Pictures are a must-have in our laboratory. We will not work on highly esthetic cosmetic cases without photos of the patient. Having the ability now to incorporate the photos into our 3Shape design for treatment options that the dentist and patient can review with our technicians to utilize to create the perfect smile is game-changing!
Ivoclar Vivadent
Matt Roberts, CDT
The multi-translucency properties of this product are truly changing the way we think about zirconia. We are seeing better masking of dark preparations and esthetics that equal bonded lithium disilicate materials in an 850-MPa zirconia. Many clients are specifically requesting it for their large reconstructive cases
Jensen Dental
Andre Theberge, CDT, RDT
This material can enhance and/or correct any shade. Value, hue, and chroma-it is magic!
Komet USA
Steven Pigliacelli, MDT, CDT
Komet USA's LD1504 kit assists clinicians in making chairside adjustments and polishing high-strength ceramic, CAD/CAM zirconia, or PFM restorations in their operatory. This saves time and allows them to easily remove a defective crown restoration of all different substrates, including zirconia and lithium disilicate, confidently knowing these are the optimum diamonds to effectively accomplish the task. At this point, the laboratory becomes part of the solution for the clinician, which adds another layer of the benefits of working with a high-quality, solutions-based laboratory.
