Finding skilled technicians is a common challenge among many dental laboratories today. As the number of college programs for dental technology continues to dwindle, laboratories are turning to other places for talent. More than half of laboratories in an IDT survey listed "training unskilled hires" among the ways they find new talent, though that percentage was higher for laboratories with more than 10 employees. Still, approximately one-fifth of laboratories of all sizes said they still hire from college programs, and nearly half said they hire from other laboratories.
