Milestones and Memories
Inside Dental Technology delivers updates on digital workflows, materials, lab techniques, and innovation in dental technology through expert articles and videos.
As IDT celebrates the first decade of its inception this month, it is with incredible gratitude and humility that I look back on my years as Editor-in-Chief as the most rewarding of my career, thanks to all of you who helped transform a vision into reality. 2010 was an important inflection point in this industry. The rough road of transition from analog to digital production had transformed processes, materials, and workflow, leaving few looking back and most looking forward. The recession of 2008, the decline of accredited dental laboratory programs, overseas manufacturing, regulatory forces, laboratory consolidation, and the rapid growth of corporate dentistry all contributed to a period of change so rapid that keeping pace needed a voice of deeper exploration and perspective to help lead the industry through the next decade. And so IDT was born.
It is this same determination, leadership, and entrepreneurial spirit that many of you bring to IDT in articles offering business advice, technical expertise, perspectives on technological breakthroughs, and in our feature stories or on stage, presenting at the IDT International Digital Denture Symposium, IDT Roundtable: Removable Prosthetics, or network gatherings such as Women in Dentistry. We will continue to depend on your voices to help lead the industry through the years ahead.
As I step back further in 2020 to full retirement this month, I leave the editorial stewardship of IDT in the very capable hands of Editor-In-Chief Peter Pizzi, MDT, CDT, and Executive Editor Daniel Alter, MSc, MDT, CDT. You both have been such an inspiration and guiding lights. I know you will be successful in guiding IDT through the next 10 years and more.
It goes without saying that behind every successful publication is a very dedicated and talented team of editors and design artists. Jason Mazda, Group Brand Director, Inside Brands, continues to masterfully lead the team in assembling, editing, and designing all the pieces that go into every single issue of IDT, as well as keeping our social media, industry events, and online efforts on the cutting edge. It's been my privilege to work with and learn from each of you.
My heartfelt gratitude goes out to those who 10 years ago believed in two women with a vision: AEGIS Dental Network Chairman Dan Perkins, Vice Chairman Tony Angelini, and CEO Karen Auiler. Thank you for seeing past our business naiveté and for lending the full support of the very professional and savvy AEGIS staff as well as the financial resources to create IDT. It has been a true pleasure and privilege knowing and learning from each of you.
My last words belong to Valerie Berger. You have been my business soulmate for the past 20+ years. Together, I don't believe there was anything we thought we couldn't achieve, and we achieved most of what we set out to do. It is rare to find such a strong personal friendship and business partnership blended into two decades of business ventures. Our business partnership may have ended but the friendship continues.
