Here at Cornerstone Dental Labs, we know that our most valued asset is time. When it comes to a dental restoration, chair time and laboratory time are essential. To keep our turnaround times competitive in the market, we rely on a total of seven vhf milling and grinding machines in our facility. Not only are they fast, but they are also extremely reliable and highly precise.
Our bread-and-butter machines are two vhf S2s. We run these machines 24 hours a day, 6 days a week—an enormous amount of milling work where you absolutely have to trust in the capabilities of your machines. This technology allows us to process the complete range of materials: from zirconia to cobalt chrome to plastics, such as high-end PMMA. I also like the advantages of wet grinding. When we added a wet grinding option to our vhf machine, it offered us an even broader range of materials, including titanium and all kinds of glass ceramics.
With the new S5 from vhf, we are now able to save even more time due to its smart features. For example, the integrated ionizers considerably reduce the cleaning effort as they neutralize the static charge of acrylic chips. As each one of us knows, when you process so much plastic, you get a lot of static charge and the dust goes everywhere instead of being extracted from the mill. At first, I was skeptical about how well that would function, but I soon learned just how unbelievably well it works.
For me, the built-in ionizers are a major improvement of the S5. Another advantage is the amount of time saved, followed by the machine's reliability, especially when we load it for overnight milling. With eight discs in a row, you would not want to risk any dust or acrylic chips getting in the way and causing issues, and the ionizers resolve that issue. The S5's reliability offers peace of mind to any laboratory and the best value for the money.
