Automated Milling Makes an Impact
Inside Dental Technology delivers updates on digital workflows, materials, lab techniques, and innovation in dental technology through expert articles and videos.
At Niche Dental Studio we have more than tripled our workforce over the past decade, but even that was not enough to keep up with all the work that keeps coming in. Transitioning to digital processes helped, but we were still encountering challenges based on the manual steps required to operate our mills-primarily removing milled restorations and reloading with new pucks. My wife and I, as well as some of our employees, often found ourselves returning to the laboratory in the middle of the night to keep the workflow going. That is why we invested in the Ceramill Matik, which has basically eliminated the use of a whole employee via automation.
Ceramill Matik opens up a still unique segment within the digital dental world. As the first full service unit, it combines three machines in one. Apart from the actual processing station, the system also performs the functions of a fully automated stock management system as well as a machine cleaning device.
Why is automation so important?
Not only can we load several jobs at a time, but we can seamlessly switch from wet to dry and back with no manual work.
What other automation stands out?
The fact that it is a self-cleaning machine means we do not need to spend significant time on maintenance.
How are the quality and speed?
The CAD and CAM software steps are fast, and the five-axis machining produces the highest quality.
