Planmeca is introducing several key innovations in dental imaging and software at the IDS 2025 in Cologne. The company is unveiling three new units in the Planmeca Viso® product family, alongside its updated Planmeca Romexis® 7 software, both designed to elevate diagnostic capabilities and optimize daily workflows in dental practices.
The new additions to the Planmeca Viso® family include the Planmeca Viso® G1, a CBCT imaging unit designed for the diverse needs of modern dental clinics. The unit is equipped with cutting-edge sensor technology and an intuitive user interface, offering a field of view (FOV) of up to 11 x 11 cm. According to the company, it can produce high-quality images, even under heavy daily use, and is equipped with a one-shot cephalostat for enhanced cephalometric analysis. In addition to the Planmeca Viso G1, two new 2D imaging units, the Planmeca Viso® 2D Pro and Planmeca Viso® 2D Classic, are also debuting. These units bring Planmeca’s advanced Viso technology to 2D imaging users, providing intuitive interfaces and superior image quality.
Timo Müller, vice president of Planmeca’s X-ray division, said, “Planmeca has always been a pioneer in the dental industry, and our sights are firmly on the horizon even now. We strongly believe in the Planmeca Viso product family, as bolstered by our satisfied Viso customers in nearly 80 countries around the world. The new devices have once again been developed while listening closely to user feedback and suggestions – with patient safety and diagnostic image quality always as the top priority in line with our Ultra Low Dose philosophy. Viso is, quite simply, the future.”
All new devices integrate seamlessly with Planmeca’s Romexis® software platform, a comprehensive solution that supports 2D, 3D, and CAD/CAM imaging. The Planmeca Romexis® 7 update brings AI-powered tools that automate tasks such as anatomy recognition, tooth numbering, and implant planning. According to Planmeca, this integration of AI helps streamline workflows, allowing dental professionals to focus more on patient care.
“By integrating AI capabilities directly into our Romexis platform, we are empowering dental professionals to work more efficiently and focus on what truly matters — providing exceptional patient care. Romexis 7 is a unique software that takes dental imaging tools to the next level,” said Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, vice president for digital imaging and applications at Planmeca.
Planmeca Romexis® 7 also introduces new features, including automatic segmentation of the mandibular nerve in CBCT images, automated 3D cephalometric analysis, and implant treatment planning. The software’s AI tools can intelligently fuse digital impressions with CBCT data to assist in implant guide design. Additionally, the software now includes a language model-based smart chat, which helps users navigate software operations and maximize the software's potential.
The Romexis® VR solution, also featured in Romexis 7, allows dental professionals to view and visualize 3D data in true three dimensions, further enhancing treatment planning capabilities.
Planmeca will be showcasing these innovations at its booth (A30–C39, Hall 1) at IDS 2025 in Cologne from March 25 to 29.
