DentScribe has announced DentScribe Perio Charting 3.0, an Edge AI system designed to understand the natural periodontal charting language used by hygienists and dentists during exams. According to the company, the system was developed to recognize the way clinicians already communicate rather than requiring them to follow a predefined dictation script.
The company said periodontal examinations often involve rapid transitions between probing depths, bleeding, recession, mucogingival junction measurements, tooth ranges, surfaces, corrections, and follow-on findings. According to DentScribe, Perio Charting 3.0 is designed to track those changes in real time and interpret clinical meaning within the context of an ongoing workflow.
“Perio charting should not feel like learning a new language,” said Dr. Vinni K. Singh, founder & CEO of DentScribe. “The clinician already has a language. It is fast, nuanced, and clinically efficient. DentScribe Perio Charting 3.0 was built to understand that language.”
According to the company, the software models periodontal dictation as a structured clinical language that accounts for factors such as surfaces, teeth, sites, quadrants, probing depths, bleeding, recession, mucogingival junction measurements, mobility, lists, ranges, and scope. DentScribe said this approach allows the system to interpret different ways clinicians may communicate the same clinical finding.
The company said the platform is designed to accommodate workflow variations commonly encountered during periodontal examinations, including abbreviated commands, changes in sequence, corrections, inherited context, and interruptions. DentScribe also stated that the system is engineered to distinguish between speech-recognition issues and clinical interpretation, and is designed to abstain from entering information when evidence is insufficient rather than make assumptions.
“DentScribe's ground-truth approach starts with what clinicians actually say and turns it into structured action,” said Dr. Ratinder Paul Singh Ahuja, board chair of DentScribe. “Perio Charting 3.0 brings that approach to one of the most technically challenging workflows in dentistry.”
A dentist who reviewed DentScribe Perio Charting described it as “the most intuitive and easy-to-use perio charting solution” they had seen, according to the company.
DentScribe said the new periodontal charting capability is part of its broader platform, which also includes AI-generated SOAP notes, DentScribe CoPilot, DentScribe GPS, treatment coordinator notes, patient after-care summaries, doctor communications, and practice management system-connected documentation workflows.
According to the company, DentScribe, operating as SuhaviAI, Inc., develops AI tools focused on dental documentation and production. The company said its platform generates SOAP notes from dentist-patient conversations and publishes them into practice management systems, while also providing workflow and operational tools for dental practices.
