Bennett Napier, Chief Staff Executive of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, shared that the Florida Legislature just passed Legislation that included language on “authorization of dental laboratory technicians to be onsite for chairside services.” This is the first language of its kind in the US that takes into account that dentists are seeking the dental laboratory technician to be onsite for complex cases such as full mouth reconstructions, immediate loads, All-on-4, training for IOS systems, etc.
This legislation was introduced in 2019, but the language died as part of a bill that did not get passed. This year, the Florida Dental Laboratory Association, with the support of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, lobbied for the language again, and it passed as part of House Bill 713, which did pass both chambers. It is expected the Governor will sign this bill.
The Florida Dental Association (Drew Eason and Jo Anne Hart) were supportive of FDLA’s efforts.
